Bowls for people with disabilities.

Howard Park Bowls Club have been in contact with http://disabilitybowlsengland.org.uk and The British Wheelchair Bowls Association http://bwba.org.ukare pleased to announce we are now able to provide the opportunity for anyone with a disability to play bowls. Our club is currently undergoing a major refurbishment project to include a better accessible toilet with appropriate handrails etc. We also have a special wheelchair and ramp to assist entry and exit from the playing area.  Parking  can be found next to the club grounds and has some parking for disabled. There is a bus route nearby about 400 metre or so but members are usually very willing to give lifts

The sport of Bowls can be played by almost anyone, with or without a disability

Bowls can be played in many formats, singles, pairs, triples and fours. It can be played in teams of whatever number you wish. Bowls can be played competitively at local, national and international level or it can be a social pastime, whatever you want.

Bowlers with a disability can compete with or against non-disabled bowlers in most situations. It is one of the most accessible and integrated sports readily available.

In recent years the game has become far more accessible to people with disabilities with the development of specially designed wheelchairs for lawn and indoor bowling greens to prevent damage to the greens.  Several other aids are now available enabling more participation in the sport.
